Usonia is a wife and husband team that worked in restaurants for many years before moving into winemaking. After working at wineries in the Burgenland of Austria and the Adelaide Hills of Australia, they moved to the Finger Lakes of New York. Here, they have found an amazing community of growers and winemakers dedicated to pushing the region forward. They hope to contribute a small part to that.
Usonia is dedicated to exploring new ways forward for New York wine. Their name comes from the architect Frank Lloyd Wright, who used Usonia to refer to his vision of a fully democratic American landscape, free of Old World conventions. Alex and Julia focus on varieties that they believe are appropriate to their cold climate. Winemaking is hands-off: the only addition any wine sees is a small amount of sulfur. They strive to make vibrant, honest wines true to the place they come from.
